This adaptation of Dan Lungu’s 2007 novel details the chaos that ensues when an estranged family is reunited. The quiet provincial life of couple Emilia and Tucu is turned upside down when their daughter returns from Canada, together with her American fiancée.

STERE GULEA was born in 1943 in the district of Mihail Kogalniceanu, Constantza. He is of Aromanian (Macedo-Romanian) origin.
His best known feature is Morometii/The Moromete Family (1988), an adaptation after Marin Preda’s novel of the same title.
He also co-directed the documentary Piata Universitatii – Romania/University Square – Romania (1991), a presentation of the one-month long rally in University Place, Bucharest, where Romanian people demonstrated against the neo-communist government which had taken power after the toppling of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. The film also shows the brutal repression of the rally by the government forces.
After 1989, Stere Gulea became a respected civil society activist.
Selected filmography: Sunt o baba comunista/I Am An Old Communist Hag (2013), Weekend cu mama/Weekend With My Mother (2009), Hacker (2004), Stare de fapt/State of Things (1996), Vulpe – Vanator/Fox – Hunter (1993), Piata Universitatii – Romania/University Square – Romania (documentary, 1991), Morometii/The Moromete Family (1988), Ochi de urs/The Bear’s Eye (1983), Castelul din Carpati/Castle of the Carpathians (1981), Iarba verde de acasa/The Green Grass of Home (1978)

“Hello, everyone. Welcome to The Romanian Film Festival!
The RFF is an 11 year old brand which reflects tradition and also offers a circle of strongly motivated audiences. When it took off in 2003 the Romanian New Wave cinema was about to take off at the same time, highlighting remarkable actors and young directors. Supported and inspired by these sparkling new talents, the Festival went from strength to strength.
We are an independent organisation, a small group of passionate and dedicated individuals committed to providing an amazing display of Romanian films in the UK. RFF is a not- for-profit enterprise, functioning with the help of grants and sponsorship from our numerous friends and supporters.
The Romanian Film Festival aims to reach an important audience eager to celebrate Romanian achievements. In 2014 we are, once again, Breaking New Ground when the London display is followed, for the first time, by screenings outside the capital, in Liverpool and Edinburgh.”
(Ramona Mitrica and Mike Phillips, Profusion directors)
