NAE CARAMFIL

Nae Caranfil was born in 1960 in Bucharest. He studied at The National University of Theatre and Film "I.L. Caragiale” in Bucharest, which he graduated in 1984.

In the beginning of his career he directed short films, then made his feature film debut with E Pericoloso Sporgersi/Sundays on Leave (1993) followed by the comedy Asfalt tango starring Charlotte Rampling (1996). His movie Filantropica (2002) was a prize winning critical success, and gave him the reputation of the best Romanian director of the 1990s.

Nae Caranfil is also a screenwriter, who has worked on the scripts and the music for his best-known movies. Closer to the Moon is a black comedy, which reflects the entertaining and thoughtful character of Caranfil and his work.
