RFF 20 YEARS

RFF 20 Years Celebration

This year we celebrate 20 years since we’ve started the Romanian Film Festival in London, back in 2003.

History and Success: this is what makes the Romanian Film Festival in London (RFF) one of the important Romanian cultural events of the year in the UK.The Festival began in an arthouse cinema in central London, and kept growing, presenting a wide spectrum of films in Romanian as part of its programmes: uncontested successes, the most recent productions, and retrospectives. All films are shown with English subtitles.

This year, Profusion organises a special anniversary edition: 20 Years of the Festival (2003 – 2023). There will be film screenings, premieres, and connected events.

There will be special screenings between Thursday 30.11.2023 and Monday 04.12.2023, at Curzon Soho cinema in London, in the presence of the invited Romanian film directors, actors and producers.

Because of its breadth and the consistency with which it presents national culture in central London, the RFF is one of the most visible events of its kind.

The RFF is a non-profit initiative, financially supported by grants and sponsorships.

The RFF is organised by the British company Profusion International Creative Consultancy, in partnership with Curzon Cinemas in London. This anniversary year, we especially enjoy strategic partnerships with the Romanian Government’s Department for Romanians Abroad (Departamentul pentru Românii de Pretutindeni – DRP), with the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, and with the Embassy of Romania in London.

The RFF was born in 2003. The New Wave of Romanian Cinema had started ascending at the same time, bringing to light remarkable actors, directors and producers. Supported and inspired by these talents, the Festival grew increasingly stronger. At the same time, the Festival continued to honour classic Romanian filmmaking, presenting the peaks of this tradition to the audience.

As well as having a strong educational component, the Festival has always invited Romanian specialists from the world of film – directors, actors, screenwriters, film critics –, thus giving the UK audience an opportunity to meet some of the best-loved and most respected personalities of our national cinematography. The RFF’s guests take part in Q&A sessions with the audience, and the discussions are hosted by British writers and journalists after each screening in the programme.
